Good Morning! It’s Thursday, June 19, 2025, and this is your Daily Briefing.
It is the 170th day of the year.

Expect some closings today.

Today is Juneteenth, a federal holiday that marks the end of slavery in the United States. It commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that all enslaved people were free. This came more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth is a combination of “June” and “nineteenth” and has been observed in communities for decades. It was officially recognized as a federal holiday in 2021 when President Joe Biden signed it into law.

Because Juneteenth is a federal holiday, U.S. post offices and federal buildings are closed today. Many banks are also closed. Local government offices and some private businesses may be closed or have limited hours.

Residents should check directly with local offices or service providers for any changes to hours or schedules today.
