Sadie Chisum, Director of Communications for Lebanon R-3 Schools, sat down this week with Jason Riggs, Director of School Safety, to talk about how the district is working every day to keep students and staff safe.

Riggs, a 27-year veteran of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, now leads all safety efforts for the district—from storm shelters and active threat planning to game-day crowd management and daily building safety. His role touches every part of the school system, working closely with facilities, IT, and law enforcement to ensure a secure learning environment.

“We want our community to know that when they send their kids to school, we are thinking about safety all the time,” said Riggs. “It’s one of the most important parts of what we do.”

Lebanon Schools also partner with the Lebanon Police Department to place dedicated School Resource Officers (SROs) on campus, helping with everything from investigations to event support. Riggs praised their role, calling them “a major asset” to the district’s success.
