There’s never a dull moment at the Hughes Senior Center, and this past week proved it. Between competitive pool games, packed painting classes, and plenty of laughs echoing through the halls, it’s clear this place is more than just a schedule—it’s a community that shows up and has a good time doing it.

The second pool tournament brought in 16 players, with Mike True taking first place and John Jennings finishing second. Even better, several players who had never picked up a cue before are now jumping into tournaments and holding their own.

The painting class also filled the room, giving participants a choice between spring florals and Easter-themed artwork. With the turnout and energy, another class is already expected to return in May.

With Easter right around the corner, the center is also hosting a giveaway basket drawing this Friday at 11:30 AM. You can enter once with your name and phone number, and you don’t have to be present to win.

Veterans who signed up for war medallions are encouraged to stop by and get on the list if they’d like to be part of the upcoming presentation ceremony.

This week marks the transition from March into April, and meals are covered all week thanks to Garner and Smith Insurance.

The Hughes Senior Center also announced a new Amazon wish list for those interested in donating supplies. Community support has already helped provide new equipment, including a hot bar and an industrial potato peeler.

Volunteers are currently needed, especially at the front desk and gift shop. Anyone interested can stop by the center at 460 West Fifth Street or call 417-532-3040.

The Hughes Senior Center continues to be a place where something is always happening—and you’re always welcome to be part of it.
