A Busy and Fun Week Ahead at the Hughes Senior Center
There is always something happening at the Hughes Senior Center, and this week is full of laughter, good food, and time spent with friends. The center, located at 460 West Fifth Street in Lebanon, continues to be a place where people gather not just for activities, but for fellowship and community.
Recently, members tried out a new version of charades using cell phones, and it had the whole room laughing. Staff said the energy and joy in the room were contagious, and the game will definitely be making a return.
Another special opportunity happening this month is for local veterans. Representatives from the Missouri Veterans Recognition Program are visiting the center every Wednesday in March from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to help veterans apply for the service medals they earned. Whether someone served in combat or stateside, all veterans are encouraged to come by and get assistance with the simple application.

There are also a few fun contests underway. A candy jar guessing game is set up at the center, and whoever guesses closest to the number of candies will win both the jar and a $15 Dairy Queen gift card. The center is also hosting a Pie in the Face fundraiser, where community members can vote with donations for who they would like to see get a pie in the face. All the money raised goes directly toward activities and programs at the center.
A beautiful handmade quilt by Jane Moore is also being raffled off. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5, and the drawing will take place on March 17.
Of course, one of the best parts of visiting the Hughes Senior Center is the daily meals and the chance to sit down with friends. Lunch is served Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The suggested donation is $5 for those 60 and older and $7 for those under 60. Phoenix Home Care and Hospice is generously sponsoring meals this week.

Here is what is happening each day at the center.
Monday
Lunch will be smothered chicken with rice, California blend vegetables, garden salad, and fruit.
The day begins with quilting at 9:00 a.m., followed by balloon volleyball at 12:00 p.m., which always brings plenty of laughs.
Tuesday
Tuesday’s brunch includes scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns, biscuit and gravy, cinnamon roll, and fruit.
Activities include marjon at 9:00 a.m. and bingo at 12:00 p.m.
Wednesday
Lunch will be smothered pork chop with rice, broccoli with cheese, garden salad, and fruit.
The morning begins with Bible study at 10:15 a.m. Veterans can receive help with medal applications from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and cornhole will follow at 12:00 p.m.

Thursday
Lunch will be Salisbury steak with bread, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, and fruit.
Activities include marjon at 9:00 a.m., gospel singing at 9:45 a.m., and bingo at 12:00 p.m. The gospel group has been growing each week and welcomes new voices.
Friday
Lunch will be a fish sandwich with baked beans, coleslaw, fruit, and a special treat: ice cream sundae day with all the toppings.
The day starts with samba at 9:00 a.m. The Pie in the Face fundraiser will take place at 11:30 a.m., followed by the weekly music jam at 11:45 a.m. Friday evening wraps up with the weekly dance at 7:00 p.m. featuring the band Sharman. Admission is $5, or $3 for children under 12.
The Hughes Senior Center is always happy to welcome new faces. Whether someone comes for lunch, music, a game of bingo, or just to visit with friends, there is always a seat at the table.
The center is also looking for volunteers. Anyone who has an hour or two to help in the kitchen, gift shop, front desk, or with activities is encouraged to stop by.
