Lebanon High School Junior Organizing March 11 Walkout

A planned student walkout is scheduled for March 11 at Lebanon High School, and the student coordinating the effort says it has been in the works for about a month.

Evah Ryan, a 17-year-old junior, confirmed in a phone interview that she is organizing the event. She said the walkout is intended as a show of support for minority students, including LGBTQ students, students of color, and students with disabilities — particularly those who may experience bullying or feel unsupported.

Ryan said the event has received administrative approval and that she and a co-organizer have met multiple times with school leadership to go over logistics and safety procedures. Lebanon Now has redacted the name of the administrative contact because the interview took place after hours and a formal quote was not requested at this time.

The walkout is planned to take place during the school’s RTI period (11:08 a.m. to 11:44 a.m.). Students who choose to participate will check in with their RTI teachers first so attendance is accounted for. The event is expected to last approximately 30 minutes.

According to Ryan, the gathering will be held on school grounds at the football stadium, specifically at the top of the stadium area, and will include adult supervision. She stated that teachers will not be leaving their classrooms and that students who choose not to participate will be able to remain in RTI and continue their schoolwork without disruption.

Ryan said the event is not intended to be anti-ICE or a political protest, but rather an effort to be inclusive and create a space where students feel safe and supported.

The planned walkout gained attention online after posts circulated in a local Facebook group claiming a separate walkout had already occurred over unrelated issues. Ryan said she is not aware of any previous walkout and has spent much of the day addressing misinformation and responding to questions.

Lebanon Now will continue to follow this developing story and provide updates as they become available.
