Day of Giving Raises Over $55,000 in Laclede County

The Lebanon Area Foundation hosted its biggest fundraising day of the year with Community Cares Day of Giving on Thursday, September 25. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., volunteers, many from the same organizations that benefit from the program, took shifts at intersections across Lebanon, collecting donations from passing drivers.

The effort paid off with more than $55,000 raised to support dozens of local nonprofits. Some community members brought checks and asked to remain anonymous, while others joined the fun by dressing up in costumes ranging from a chicken to Pikachu.

Community Cares, established in 2000, provides funding to charitable organizations serving Lebanon and Laclede County. Since its inception the program has invested over $2.3 million into 76 different programs, tackling critical health and human service issues and keeping funds local to build a stronger and healthier community.

This year’s event was broadcast on Lebanon Now all day, gaining 15,000 views across multiple Facebook and Instagram pages in a locally unique live a thon. In addition to street donations, a penny drive was held with participation from all the local R3 schools. Joel E. Barber was the winner of the penny drive.

The event was made possible through the support of sponsors including Commerce Bank, Pillar Insurance, DT Engineering, InFuze Credit Union, Edward Jones, G3 Boats, Laclede Electric Cooperative, State Farm (Fred Hynes), Heritage Bank of the Ozarks, Ozarks Tech, Garner & Smith Insurance, First State Community Bank, and Lebanon Now Marketing & Media.
