On this week’s episode of The Buzz Report, filmed at Ozark Fiber Studios and produced by Lebanon Now, Sadie Chisum sat down with Joe Pemberton, Director of Transportation for Lebanon R-3 Schools, to shine a spotlight on one of the most crucial departments in the district.

From the first ride of the morning to the last drop-off of the day, the Lebanon R-3 Transportation Department plays a vital role in student safety and success. With more than 100 hours of training per driver, detailed route planning led by veteran Debbie Carter, and a dedicated team that treats every child like their own, this department is more than just buses—it’s about trust, care, and community.

Thanks to Proposition Lebanon Schools and continued support from the board and administration, the district is modernizing its fleet with new propane-powered buses. These updates aren’t just about efficiency—they’re about reducing emissions, cutting costs, and ensuring every student rides in a safe, reliable vehicle.

Director Pemberton said it best: “We’re the connection between the rural and the classroom. And for many students, we’re the first and last face they see each school day.”

Lebanon R-3 takes the safety of every student seriously, and it shows—from the hours of driver training to the conversations at every stop. The transportation team doesn’t just move students—they support them, greet them, and make sure they get where they’re going safely, every single day.
