The Hughes Senior Center has another full week of meals, activities, music, and fellowship planned for the community. The center is located at 460 West Fifth Street in Lebanon and continues to provide meals, activities, and support for local seniors throughout the week.
The center recently wrapped up its M&M guessing contest, with Joyce Scribner winning after guessing 1,281 candies in a jar that held 1,290. Staff also shared that a recent painting class was a big success, drawing more than 20 participants. Representatives from Holman-Howe Funeral Homes also visited the center to speak about planning ahead and helping families prepare for important end-of-life decisions.
The Hughes Senior Center also reminded the community about the upcoming Missouri War Medallion Ceremony taking place Monday, May 18, at the Wallace Building, honoring veterans and their families for military service.
Monday, May 18, the lunch menu will include baked chicken leg, rice pilaf, mixed vegetables, and fruit.
Quilting Club begins at 9 a.m., and darts and dart ball will take place at noon.
Tuesday, May 19, everyone can enjoy smothered pork chop, au gratin potatoes, glazed carrots, a roll, and fruit.
Mahjong begins at 9 a.m., followed by bingo at noon.
Wednesday, May 20, the center will celebrate Birthday Lunch Day with oven fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, mixed vegetables, birthday cake, and fruit.
Bible Study starts at 10:15 a.m., and Monte Luke will provide live entertainment beginning at 11 a.m.
Thursday, May 21, lunch will feature hamburger steak with sautéed mushrooms, garlic mashed potatoes, broccoli, a roll, and fruit.
Activities include Mahjong at 9 a.m., Gospel Sing at 9:45 a.m., and bingo at noon. The center will also host an indoor yard sale that day, and a limited number of vendor tables are still available.
Friday, May 22, the week finishes with baked fish, macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, pinto beans, cornbread, and fruit. Samba begins at 9 a.m., followed by a music jam at 11:45 a.m. Friday evening, the center will host a dance featuring Lost Highway at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
The Hughes Senior Center also continues to ask for volunteers, especially for Meals on Wheels deliveries and activity assistance. Staff shared that volunteers currently help deliver more than 5,500 meals each month to homebound residents in the area.
Meals are available each weekday and include access to the salad bar, soup, beverages, and ice cream. Lunch is $5 for seniors age 60 and older, $7 for those under 60, and $3 for children 12 and under.
