From the Lebanon-Laclede County Route 66 Society
Brothers-in-law who famously kept their gas stations open 24 hours a day, a husband and wife who operated the popular Eden Resort from the 1940s to the 1970s, and the entrepreneur who made “fried domestic rabbit” a delicacy still remembered decades later will be inducted into the Laclede County Route 66 Wall of Fame this Saturday.
Onell Everett Carter and James Edward Lawson Sr., Walter and Helen Dickinson and Andy Liebl will be inducted at the Route 66 Society’s annual membership meeting at the Cowan Civic Center in Lebanon. A social hour, starting at noon, will include a free chili and soup lunch and music by Mitch Shields. The program starts at 1 p.m. Everyone who supports the Route 66 Society’s mission “to educate, preserve, promote and develop Route 66 in Laclede County” is welcome to attend.
The Wall of Fame honors “those who made exceptional contributions to the development or promotion of Route 66 or who operated legendary businesses on Route 66 in Laclede County, Missouri.” The Wall of Fame plaques are displayed at the entrance to the Route 66 Museum at the Lebanon-Laclede County Library. A plaque also will be presented to a descendant of each honoree.
The Route 66 Society’s annual meeting also will include a review of its 2025 activities and a preview of events for the Route 66 Centennial this year, including the Bunion Derby 5K on April 11, the Centennial Speaker Series and the announcement of the nationally known entertainment that will perform at this year’s Route 66 Centennial Festival.
