The Hughes News is kicking off the New Year with full schedules, good meals, and plenty of ways to get involved at the Hughes Senior Center. Board member and longtime volunteer Tina Cross was recognized as January’s Angel Award winner for her dedication and hands-on help throughout the center.

The center continues to welcome new volunteers, even those who only have an hour to give. From activities to the coffee shop to special events, there’s always a place to jump in and be part of the community.

A silent auction is currently underway through January 15, with multiple tables of items available to bid on. Proceeds support food programs at the center. A handmade quilt, stitched by a 94-year-old local quilter and decorated with cardinals, is also being raffled off.

The center also shared an important fraud prevention reminder for January. Medicare will never call directly. Any official communication will always come by mail. Anyone unsure about a call is encouraged to check with the center or the Social Security office before responding
